In today’s market, even bestselling writers must do their own publicity or kiss some great potential revenue goodbye. With millions upon millions of other products out there, it is imperative to give your book every opportunity to be noticed. Here are a few quick tips on how to promote the sales of your title: Learn from the Oldies… First-timer? It may be worth while to have a look at tapes from the NSA Writers PEG meetings at the different conferences. These are some of the feelings, moods, emotions, and over-all attitudes, that one might experience when perusing books of poetry; also, these concepts, ideas, and thoughts, may fill up and expand the reader's imagination profusely exciting him/her to purchase a specific or particular book of poetry. What made Susan Boyle such an immediate hit? I strongly purport that it was her humility and sincerity when she sang the song 'I Dreamed A Dream'. Everyone who heard Susan was immediately able to relate with her as she embraced and invited everyone with her enthusiastic personality to share in her moment, it was her moment and she was not at all selfish about it. She really gave her all to her audience. I remember when I first heard Susan sing. It was in the afternoon on a beautiful and sun filled day and I was quietly at home reading email on my computer. Someone sent me an email. It simply said, 'you have to listen to this'. I was aware that a new singing sensation had erupted on the music scene...

No Time For Prayer?

We've got to be hiding from others if we truly believe our deceiving intellects, for we cannot hide from ourselves. No one has more or less time in his or her allotted lifetime than anyone else. Look at St. Therese of Lisieux, called The Little Flower, Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, born on January 2, 1873, and St. Teresa of Avila, born on March 28, 1515; both of different ages and different times, living different spans of lifetime; but boy, 'did they pray'. Oh, you're speaking about formal prayer, well then, that is a different tale told to robbers and thieves, for true prayer in spirit and in truth, is a loving glance to your Beloved, a sort of spiritual romance, quicker than a...

Articles can substantially increase the traffic to your site and hopefully raise your revenues as well. However, the articles themselves must be effective and compelling enough to hook readers to your site. Here are 3 simple steps to help you create compelling articles. 1) Make the introduction of your article interesting enough to catch the attention of readers. In particular, make your title and opening paragraph compelling so that the reader wants to continue reading to the end. Since titles are the first part of the article readers see, it must grab their eye and differentiate your articles from the others. After hooking them with your title, keep them attached with a great opening paragraph...

I have had much trouble writing this article. Not because it is a difficult article but because it actually has its push in big business and advertising, and has trickled down through the governments and our educational systems. The Unions have had a field day taking up the banner and have written and enacted all sorts of rules and regulations concerning religion in the work place. So, it seems that every time I start to write the article in order to meet the deadline, I begin with much to say; however, when I actually do begin to write, I want to change or revise this or that part in the article so many times, that it has become a burden rather than a joy such as my other previous articles have...

The War of the Worlds of the Soul

The war of the worlds into which we are born, is the war of the world that exists within each and every individual human soul of every man, woman, and child, for the internal world is the soul, and the perspectives within each one of us vies for its position of supremacy. These perspectives are powers and when used rightly will call us, lead us, and gently beckon us to follow all truth in humility and grace; however, not every perspective is valid or correct and to say so is a lie. In other words, the perspective of the natural man versus the superhuman man, or stated differently again, the human nature verses the divine nature. This is properly called the war of the worlds and this personal battle...

We speak for the child conceived living in the womb of the mother because soon that child will enter into the world of mankind as a fully developed human being to become a member of the family, a member of a nation, a member of society, totally dependent on the love and care of those around him or her. This child will be the daughter or son of a mother and father and may be the sibling of a brother and or sister, or both. The unborn child has no voice to say that it wants to live, that it wants to be born; however, by its very presence in the comfortable and protected womb of its mother, the unspoken statement is self evident. The seed that is planted is that which it is and will grow into that...

Why Authors Write

Posted by admin

Authors write because they cannot, not write. They have to in order to maintain a sense of sanity and balance to their well being. It's like a musician or a painter who sleeps eats, and lives, their music and masterpieces by perfecting their skills and applying their art to every stroke, note, beat and rhythm. Writers have an innate passion for writing that supersedes every other passion that they may be endowed with, and this innate passion is constantly churning vigorously in their creative psyches and imaginations yearning to be expressed outwardly into the written word. This is such an expansive endeavor that once they commit themselves and begin to write by sitting down with pen and paper, or...

Are You a Bully?

Today there is much talk concerning the actions of bullies in school amongst our children, in fact, there is so much information, and so much of it is false and incorrect, that the truth of the matter is overlooked, iced with frosting, or simply just glamorized. Being a bully begins at home and is perpetuated in school and into the world as adults push and batter each other to no end just for the fantasized glory of power and control and the attainment of the material things of this world, which are forever deteriorating and dying. Children learn by imitating what they see, they parrot what they hear, and if what they see and what they hear, fits into their psychic programming, then they will...

Well hand onto your socks, because the average salary of ad copywriters is anything but ordinary. Junior ad copywriters right out of ad school certainly don't make what MBA's make, but it's nothing that would require us to grab a Kleenex and well up with tears. With portfolios that still boast that 'new car smell', good junior copywriters start at about $25 to $35K. (Obviously as you hear these numbers, be aware that the lower numbers are usually more correct, whereas the upper numbers could be MUCH higher.) Marketing Your Book Has Never Been This Easy!

Most of us think publishing a book happens like this: you write a book, send it to a publisher or an agent, one day your telephone rings and BINGO, there you are. Your months and months of efforts proved to be that they weren't for nothing. Aside from your father and your wife the publisher also likes your masterpiece, and actually likes it very very much. Now all these people in the publishing house adore you and your book. Soon you're vacationing in the Caribbean and dreaming those other millions coming from your book's international sales and filming rights accumulating in your bank account. You don't even have to worry about marketing your book, that's something what your publisher will take...

Do you struggle to get new clients? Are you uncomfortable selling yourself or your services? Do you hate the very idea of sales or selling? If so, you are not alone. Let's face it...We've all had the experience-or at least heard horror-stories-of being "sold" something we really didn't want or need. And few people enjoy being pressured into buying anything. So it's no wonder the mere thought of selling leaves a bad taste in so many people's mouths. Luckily there are plenty of ways to get people to buy without "selling" a thing. In fact, the best salespeople I know avoid hard-selling like the plague. And they often don't cold-call either. Instead they position themselves as helpful experts. How? By...

Expanding Your Brand Into Other Arenas

We all start out with a single entry point - the book or business around which we create a brand. And if we are very enamored of this starting point, or doing very well (why rock the boat?) - we might not consider the expansion possibilities. But if we don't expand our brand, especially when we have done a good job of establishing it, we're "leaving money on the table" as the expression goes. Here's an example of what I mean: You write a book about how to become well-known in any field in 12 months. The book is due to come out several months from now and sell on Amazon for $24.95. You're already in the midst of a book promotion campaign and you have a dedicated website for the book launch. Why wait...

What many authors don't realize is many major publishing companies have been taken over by large conglomerates that place much more value on money and the bottom line than they place on the books they publish. In the 80's, I was an editor for a thriving publishing house in Cincinnati. We published high-quality text books for middle schools, high schools, and universities. The company had been in business for 25 years and had an excellent reputation. Shortly after I moved to Seattle, the company was purchased in a hostile take-over. The first thing the new owners did was lay off half of the staff. They kept all the marketers, for they knew the value of marketing. But they knew nothing about...

A big part of my job as a book marketing specialist is to help people create something they can actually market: a finished book. Many of us have ideas aplenty but not a clue how to get them down on paper. I don't believe in writer’s block. (I can hear the gasps of disbelief already.) Listen: If you hire a plumber to come to your house and fix a problem, do you expect him to say, "Sorry, I can't figure out what your problem is. I think I have plumber’s block"? Probably not, and if he did, you'd toss him out and call another guy faster than you can say Drano. Not that plumbing can be compared to writing, but if we follow the proper steps to get the job done, I find that writer’s...

The Lost Art of Quality in Publishing

There is a growing desire from the public for the sensational stories you read about in the tabloids, however the shock value greatly outweighs the quality of the writing offered in such publications. When crafting an e-book a similar temptation might arise to shock the audience, or supply them with some juicy revealing nugget of information. The problem is that while this may help you obtain a few readers, the best work you could've done will be compromised by your mission to shock, and awe the audience.
